Ministry to the Homeless
Society is challenged every day to meet the needs of the homeless and needy among us. Many, through no fault of their own, find only a spot in an abandoned building to sleep, without the benefit of a hot meal, clean clothes or the means to bathe. During the winter, these needs escalate; the emergency is great – many homeless individuals and families, including children, will suffer frostbite, starvation and even death.
No single agency, church or ministry can handle the immense need winter often poses. Yet there are several in the Capitol Region who strive to provide the necessary care and assistance those less fortunate than we need: Capitol City Rescue Mission, Schenectady City Mission, Troy Area United Ministries, to name just three.
For the month of January, these agencies have been chosen as the Mission of the Month, donations to be gathered and equally divided among them. Please be as generous as you can, all the while remembering our Lord’s words: … as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to Me. [Matthew 23: 31-46
LWML News + God is Good !
Thank you for your faithfulness in collecting both soda can pop tops and cancelled stamps.
A combined twenty-eight pounds of soda can pop tops from Love Lutheran Church East Greenbush and Trinity Lutheran Church Schenectady were redeemed in December. Although the $14.04 receive may not seem like a lot, to the LWML it all counts. Remember the story of the Widow’s Offering [Luke 21: 1-9].
The cancelled stamps are gathered over a period of time and brought to the Atlantic District LWML Convention, the next one to be held in Queens, NY, April 26-27, 2014. The Stamp Coordinator then sells them by the pound to a stamp collection agency.
Thank you for all your support of the LWML, and please continue to save both pop tops and stamps… and look for n news of future LWML activities here in Love Letters you may wish to participate in.
